One thing that a music teacher cannot stand is when a student does not practice. What drudgery to teach the same fundamentals over and over again to the same individual. On the other hand, what makes teaching fulfilling is when a student practices regularly, has fun doing so, and grows like a weed (musically) because of it. Drum GroovesTM (DG) wants to encourage the latter scenario. Groovin' to the Music was inspired by a desperate search for something like it. There simply is nothing on the market that does what it can do. "I was trying to find music with which my students could play along" says Dana Oliver, founder of Drum Grooves Publications and creator of Groovin' to the Music. "I needed something within their reach, yet not too easy. I felt that it must stretch them, yet be so enjoyable as to carry them through the challenge and raise them to a new level." Groovin' to the Music does just that. If you enjoy doing something, you'll do it more. This is the key to growing that DG had in mind when they produced the 50 song CD with accompanying 72 page book. Presenting such a broad variety of rhythmic styles in different levels of difficulty allows teachers to use the material progressively, tailoring it to the individual as they see fit. And Groovin' to the Music is as teacher friendly as they come. A chapter in the book is wholly dedicated to the necessity of finding a good teacher. Try implementing Groovin' to the Music in your teaching and watch your students become excited about practicing. Then watch them grow as players. |
