You may, if you are a composer, want to review the section on song writers. Many points are covered there that need not be repeated here. There are some other points that are more appropriately touched on in this section, however. They are the following: First, composers do not always take the time to specify in very great detail drum parts for music scores. Percussion instruments usually get more attention, because they serve a special purpose of creating effect. This is probably an example of the fact that drummers are not expected to read music, and it allows for much in the way of humor. It is also a sad reality at the same time. Secondly, it might be, in some cases, that composers are somewhat at a loss (not entirely, of course) as to what precisely to write for drum parts. One can have a great deal of knowledge in music, yet be deficient in this area of rhythm. The drum scores in Groovin' to the Music were written with everything "beams up" to maintain the sense of unity in the instrument. Though there are different preferences on this point, Drum GroovesTM felt this was most appropriate, especially for new readers. |
